Franco Fontein 

Franco grew up and went to school in a small farming community. He is the last born of a rather large family with 4 older sisters, separated by not more than 5 years between him and the eldest. His parents ran the local grocery store in town where he often had to work weekends packing away groceries for the customers.

In his matric year he designed and made more than half of the girls’ matric farewell dresses, and had a heavy hand in the makeup of the school hall, needless to say it was one of the most talked about farewells ever to hit the humble town!

Being part of a conservative community he did not have much hope for developing his talent and passion for the more glamorous things in life, so after school he decided to migrate to Cape Town, where his surroundings are now a little more fashion-friendly and retro.

Nowadays Franc’o loves to spend his free time mingling and doing some social networking with friends in the Camps Bay area. He loves pink cocktails and always has time for a sundowner and a brisk gaze over the ocean.

Franco’s greatest passion is being a professional makeover specialist for local Celebs here in sunny South Africa. His greatest success, allegedly, is maintaining Riaan Cruywagen’s stern news anchor looks for the last century. Some have frowned upon this achievement however, mainly because Franc’o was still in liquid form during the time he claimed to have done this.

Franc’o offers a variety of services to his clients ranging from wardrobe redesigns to hair stylist recommendations. Now and then he would render his services free of charge to friends and family members who are in dire need of some experience hands organising weddings and kitchen teas.

Franc’o has recently undertaken to travel across the country on an adventure to cure those he likes to call “The Fashion Franklinsteins” due to their apparent ignorance of what goes with what!

We thought it wise to invite Franc’o to grace us with his presence on the Garmin. In a bid to silence the nagging voice on his own Garmin, Franc’o decided that the only person he wants to hear is... himself and approached us to satisfy his need to be directed by someone who actually doesn’t work on his nerves too much. He is now happily touring the countryside offering seminars to those who can “afford” to attend in his constant drive to heal South Africa of “Fashion Ignorance”.

So look out for him on the roads as he endeavours to complete his conquest and remember to hoot if you’re happy.
